MUMBAI, June 8: Upset over failure in school examinations, a 14-year-old class VII girl, committed suicide by jumping out of her bedroom window early this morning at Oshivara. Police said Sanam Mohsin Khan jumped from her family’s 14th-floor flat in Premier Towers at around 3 am. She died of multiple fractures.
Sub-inspector B G Garande of Oshiwara police told Express Newsline that Sanam had failed twice in Standard VII and didn’t want to face her classmates. Her result came out a few days back.
The watchman of the building said he heard the girl hit the floor with a loud thud. However, he could not recognise the body and informed the secretary of the housing society. The secretary in turn alerted the police.
Khans said Sanam had a long conversation with them till around 11.30 pm after which she went to bed. They said she looked quite cheerful and that there was no reason to suspect that she would attempt suicide. Sanam left a suicide note saying she wished to donate her eyes after death. The funeral,which took place this evening, was attended by her classmates and teachers.This is the sixth case of a student committing suicide following failure in examination.
