Sports Minister M S Gill has assured archer Reena Kumari that he would look into the selection criteria adopted by Archery Association of India (AAI) which left her out of Olympic squad despite finishing first in two of the three selection trials.
This comes after the Sports Minstry intervention in the weightlifting selection wrangle, which ended after Monika Devi was chosen for India’s lone berth in Beijing.
Reena had made a representation to Sports Minister after she failed to make it to Beijing archery squad despite finishing first in two trials in May.
“I met the Sports Minister on July 16 and he assured me that he would look into the selection criteria,” Reena said on Monday.
Reena stood first in Meerut and Kolkata trials in May and she was told by AAI that she had been selected for the Olympics.
But AAI decided to have another trial in Kolkata last month and she was left out after coming fifth. Dola Banerjee, Bombayla Devi and V Pranitha were selected for Beijing.
