Angry over actress Sharmila Tagore’s absence at a second small town premiere of his new film, filmmaker Gautam Ghose has decided not to cast her in any of his projects.

‘‘I am announcing this before all here that I would not cast her in any of my films,’’ the maker of Abar Aranya (In The Forest…Again), a take off on Satyajit Ray’s Aranyer Dinratri (Days and Nights in Forest), said at the premiere of the film here at Gitanjali theatre. ‘‘Those who come to appear before the press in Kolkata and forget there are places outside the city too have no place in my films,’’ Ghose said.

‘‘Sharmila asked me earlier if I would cast her in my future ventures. But, she left for Delhi without informing me,’’ he said.

Abar Aranya, featuring Tabu for the first time in a Bengali film, was premiered on May 16 in Kolkata. The director was also sour with her as she had reportedly demanded police escort for travelling to Shantiniketan. ‘‘It is an insult for me. When the producers told me police escort would be needed for Tabu, I made it clear that for my film’s premiere it is not possible,’’ he said.

Actress Rupa Ganguly, who acts in the film, tried to salvage the situation. ‘‘These are his emotional outpourings. He is a different kind of a person. I know he would embrace all once he cools down,’’ Ganguly said. CPI(M) MP Somnath Chatterjee, Vishwa Bharati vice-chancellor Sujit Kumar Basu were also present.
