MUMBAI, Nov 6: The Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) said that some additional equipment which was required for snubbing jobs have arrived and the entire operation, which is a standard practice, is expected to be completed in a fortnight's time. Confirming The Indian Express report `ONGC rig in the grip of a gas leak' dated November 6, ONGC Manager (Public Relation) E Mohan Reddy in a press release issued today stated that the snubbing operations are being conducted in association with experts from Wild Well, a United States-based company. The cost of these operations is covered by insurance and the insurance surveyors visited the rig few days back. The insurance surveyors were satisfied with the safe manner in which the control operations were conducted, the release said.Meanwhile, an offshore expert told The Indian Express that operational negligence is the main cause of leaks and blow-ups in oil rigs. There are initial kicks and other warning signs before a well actually starts leaking, which can be prevented by immediately taking precautionary measures, the expert added. Usually three hydraulic rams are placed to control a gas leak.
