PUNE, Nov 17: Public Works Minister Nitin Gadkari has convened a meeting of Mayor Vatsala Andekar, Deputy Mayor Bhagwan Kshirsagar, all party leaders and municipal commissioner Rajiv Agrawal on Wednesday to explain his proposal of constructing the flyovers in Pune metropolitan area.

Speaking at a function, organised by Kum. Rajshree Parmar Memorial Foundation, where he gave away awards to ten people for helping accident victims, Gadkari lamented that Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was not taking any decision on the proposal moved by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) for the past three months. Gadkari, visibly upset for delay on PMC’s part to approve the proposal, said he would leave the city tomorrow only after taking a final decision on the issue.

He said citizens should hold Kalmadi and the Mayor responsible if the MSRDC could not implement the project because of non-cooperation from the municipal corporation.

Gadkari urged the corporation to take any decision whether it want to share the expenses or it was not interested in the project. He said MSRDC would take its decision only after the formal decision by the PMC. Gadkari said the MSRDC would object even if the PMC refused to share the expenses.

Taking strong exception to the Congress’s objection that the project cost was inflated, Gadkari said the issue was always negotiable and the matter could be sorted out amicably. He, however, also urged the PMC to consider other facilities that would come up with the flyovers. Gadkari said MSRDC could complete the entire project within 18 months if the PMC cooperated.

Earlier, BJP MLA Girish Bapat criticised The PMC for not taking a decision for more than three months even if the State Government was ready to spend crores of rupees. Commissioner of Police K.K.Kashyap requested the minister to review the deteriorating traffic conditions in the city.
