The state Assembly here today witnessed uproarious scenes with Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) members frequently storming the podium protesting TDP government’s failure to ban VHP international general secretary Pravin Togadia’s entry into the state.
The Opposition Congress, CPI (M) and MIM members gave separate notices for adjournment motion, as they sought to corner the TDP government on its handling of the situation arising out of VHP’s public meeting at Anantapur yesterday.
While Congress and CPI(M) members moved notices on attack on AP Bhavan in Delhi by Bajrang Dal activists yesterday, the MIM’s notice pertained to government’s ‘‘failure to stop Togadia’s entry into the state’’.
The MIM member Akbaruddin Owaisi demanded that a case be booked against Togadia for ‘‘justifying Gujarat violence’’ and making inflammatory speech to sow seeds of communal discord.
Waving copies of newspapers carrying Togadia’s speech, the enraged MIM members Syed Sajjad and Mumtaz Ali Khan rushed to the podium and entered into a heated argument with the chair while BJP members sought to counter them by shouting slogans in favour of VHP.
As tempers ran high, Home Minister T. Devender Goud said the government did not grant permission for VHP’s proposed rallies in Rayalaseema region. The Sangh Parivar organisation, however, had approached the high court and got permission for the public meetings, the minister said.
