NEW DELHI, February 6: The Bharatiya Janata Party in its manifesto for Delhi has promised full statehood and an improvement in the law and order situation.Castigating the Central Government, the supplementary manifesto says, ``Because of the indifferent and non-cooperative attitude of the Central Government, a number of important issues of prime interest of the people of Delhi are hanging fire.''Releasing the manifesto today the state BJP president Kedar Nath Sahani felt that full statehood would give total control over the Delhi Police which would help in modernising the force. Saying that it would go a long way in checking the soaring crime graph in the Capital, he said that the law and order situation would improve once Delhi becomes a full-fledged state and the police forces are strengthened.Commenting on the a need for a supplementary manifesto, Sahani said, ``We feel that the problems due to the lack of full statehood need to be highlighted.'' The party pledges to stop meat export from Delhi, makethe NDMC an elected body, regularisation of unauthorised colonies and provide basic civic amenities in these colonies, slums and rehabilitation localities. The party would constitute a separate corporation for trans-Yamuna area, increase funds for its development and construction of a new railway station, the manifesto said.The party also promised speedy work on underground railway system, implementation of the mass rapid transport system, construction of an expressway to facilitate termination of inter-state traffic and strengthening of the DTC bus fleet. The BJP promised to amend the controversial Rent Control Act before its implementation to ensure balance between the interests of landlords and tenants.The party assured relief from penalty and interest imposed on the DDA's hire-purchase flats, conversion of leasehold properties into freehold, providing land and soft-term loans to cooperative housing societies and construction of more houses in the city.Effective steps would be taken to developareas along Yamuna and stop release of sullage into the river. Cleanliness campaign launched by the government would be intensified to minimise the pollution. The party promised to create more job opportunities and said a workers welfare board would be constituted to look into their problems.The BJP said it would go ahead with constitution of the family courts to ensure prevention of crimes against women. The Delhi Bar Association had vehemently opposed the move by the government last year. The party said it would maintain the multi-state character of Delhi by providing opportunities for development of the distinct cultures of people from all parts of the country.
