Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will visit India this week in the hopes of putting talks on a bilateral free trade deal back on track, a Thai senior official said on Monday. The two countries had set a March deadline for an agreement, but Thailand’s deputy chief negotiator, Chana Kanaratanadilok, said the talks stalled after India put more than 1,000 items on its sensitive list compared with Thailand’s 100. “The PM will visit India on June 3-6 to discuss how to bring the talks back on track,” Chana said. The items on the Indian list include garments, textiles and auto parts. Thailand has listed mostly agricultural and industrial items. —Reuters
