PUNE, SEPT 20: Fourteen arterial roads in the city will be closed for vehicular traffic on September 24 to provide smooth passage to the Ganesh immersion processions.
Among the roads to be closed for vehicular traffic include the entire stretch of Shivaji Road, part of Laxmi Road from Nana Peth police Chowkey to Tilak Chowk near Alka Cinema Hall, part of Bajirao Road between Puram Chowk near Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya and Shaniwarwada, entire Tilak Road, Kumthekar Road, N C Kelkar Road, part of Lal Bahaddur Shastri Road between Senadatta Peth police chowkey and Alka Cinema Hall, stretch of Jungli Maharaj Road between Balgandharva Rang Mandir and Khandojibaba Chowk, part of Karve Road between Nal Stop Chowk and Khandojibaba Chowk, stretch of Fergusson College Road between Fergusson College Main Gate and Khandojibaba Chowk and stretch of Bhandarkar Road from PYC Gymkhana to Good Luck Chowk and further to Natraj Chowk.
The road linking Sonya Maruti Chowk on Laxmi Road with the Phadke Haud Chowk in Kasba Peth, the road heading towards Jijamata Chowk from Daruwala Pul and the road linking Devjibaba Chowk with Hamjekhan Chowk will also be closed for vehicular traffic, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmatrao Deshbhratar said.
Vehicles proceeding toward Mumbai-Pune Road from Pune-Satara and Pune-Solapur roads will be diverted via Shankarsheth Road, Golibar Maidan, Mhamadevi Chowk, Bhairoba Nala, Circuit House and Yerawada.
Light vehicles on Pune-Satara Road will be rerouted via Volga Chowk, Mitramandal Chowk, Sarasbaug, Sinhagad Road, Paan Mala, Dattawadi, Mhatre Bridge, Nal Stop Chowk, Senapati Bapat Road and Ganeshkhind Road.
Vehicles proceeding toward Satara from Pune Solapur road will be diverted via CDO Chowk, Salisbury Park, Giridhar Bhavan Chowk and Gultekdi Market Yard.
The main procession will proceed on the Laxmi Road while separate processions will be taken out on Kelkar Road, Kumthekar Road, Tilak Road, Lal Bahaddur Shastri Road and Karve Road. Ganesh mandals participating in these processions will queue up on Bajirao Road, Laxmi Road and Shivaji Road. Vehicular parking will be banned along the procession routes and the roads on which various mandals will queue up.
Immersion arrangements have been made at Vitthal Mandir near Lakdi Pul, Pulachi Wadi, behind Natraj Cinema, Panchaleshwar temple, Garware College, Omkareshwar temple and at the junction of the Hari Pawar road and Kelkar Road. Immersion points have also been set up along the Mutha Right Bank Canal near Apsara Cinema, Savar Putala Chowk and Sangam Bridge.
Deshbhratar has appealed to the Ganesh mandals to ensure that the engines of all vehicles participating in the procession should be checked to curb break downs during the procession. Only those vehicles, which have been certified by the RTO, will be allowed to participate in the procession, he added.
