Four police personnel were killed and two other seriously injured when a group of heavily armed militants belonging to the Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF), a little-known outfit, ambushed a police party in the autonomous hill district of Karbi Anglong today.

Official sources said the policemen were proceeding from the Dilai outpost to the Koilapahar area on receiving information regarding the movement of armed militants when they were attacked. The incident occurred at around 11.30 am today.

The four killed have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Bimal Sarkar, Constable Debabrata Basumatary, Havildar A Laskar and driver Robin Bordoloi. The injured constables, N Langthasa and Debadhar Bora, are undergoing treatment at the district civil hospital at Diphu.
