MUMBAI, Sept 12: President of the Maharashtra State Forward Bloc G H Fernandes has warned that his party would not allow any statue other than that of Indian National Army (INA) founder, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, to be installed at Kala Ghoda in South Mumbai.

At a press conference here today, he said if any statue other than Netaji’s is installed, the Forward Bloc would, “blast the place to smitherens”.

The Forward Bloc has been seeking permission to install a statue for the last 30 years and the government has been offering lame excuses, he added.

He said a statue would serve as an inspiration to the younger generation and be a glorious tribute to Netaji. The party also welcomed the move initiated by Union Home Minister L K Advani to rename Delhi’s Red Fort after Netaji, and reiterated its demand for a fresh inquiry into the leader’s disappearance.

Party General Secretary Debabrata Biswas said that the Forward Block had been demanding the renaming of the Red Fort, where the grand trial againstthe INA was conducted at the end of the second World War.
