
Foreign tourist arrivals in the country registered an increase of 14.2 per cent in the first ten months of this year with total earnings around Rs 20,512.68 crore.
Over 29 lakh foreign tourists visited the country till October 2005 as against the 25 lakh that came during the corresponding period of last year.
The country earned a staggering Rs 20,512 crore, up 20.4 per cent compared to last year, during the period.
The major chunk of foreign tourists arrived in India during January and February, the peak season in the country’s tourism calender. While over 36,000 foreigners arrived in Jan., Feb. saw the figure crossing 37,000, the government said in a statement. The subsequent months also witnessed a steady flow of tourists, with over 32,000 arriving in India last month as the new tourist season gradually gains momentum. The forex kitty has also continued its upward trend, with India receiving Rs 29,63,587 in the first ten months this year as against Rs 25,94,241 during the whole of last year.
Passenger windfall for IA
New Delhi: Indian Airlines on Monday said a record 29,136 revenue passengers travelled on its flights across its network onÿNovember 6, 2005, out of a total 32,405 passengers booked for the day. With Sunday’s figures, the airline crossed the 29,000-mark for the first time this year, surpassing its earlier highs of 28,730 on May 15, 28,136 on May 18, 28,458 on May 21 and 28,053 on May 25.
