MUMBAI, NOV 28: Ford Motors Company is planning to launch a brand new small car model for the Indian market to be manufactured at its Chennai plant. However, Ford vice chairman, Wayner Booker did not give any details on the small car project.He said that the new model would be a three-box, four door family car. Mahindra Ford, the 50:50 joint venture company of Mahindra & Mahindra and Ford Motor Company, will introduce the small car, with an engine capacity in the 800 cc to 1000 cc. ``It will be the first of its kind from the Ford stable and exclusive to Asia,'' he said at a press meet.Booker said the people's car will be launched after the three box `Fiesta' makes its debut in the latter half of 1999. Mahindra Ford plans an initial output of 50,000 Fiestas at its upcoming Maraimalai Nagar plant.Booker said the company has revised its sales targets following the slowdown in auto sales. The demand in the year 1997 is weaker and the market is not achieving the bouyance expected. Hence we have scaled down our sales targets for the next and the current fiscal.John Parker, President & Managing Director of Mahindra Ford said the company was likely to scale down its production by at least 2,000 units this fiscal year.
