NEW DELHI, Jan 8: The maximum temperature dropped by another degree today. The fog persisted and is most likely to continue to hang over the city for another three days. The day temperatures are following the pattern of the coldest week in December. While the maximum temperature has started dropping, the minimum is rising steadily. The temperatures today: Maximum 15.9 degree Celsius (five below normal), minimum 7.9 degree Celsius (one above normal).According to the meteorological office, the western disturbance responsible for yesterday's foggy condition has blown over. ``However, the cloud cover in the western Himalayas and the moisture in the atmosphere have resulted in the dense fog. This time, there are no winds blowing and hence the impact of the cold is not that biting,'' says S.R. Kalsi, Deputy Director General, Metreology Department.Yesterday's snowfall in the hills, thick cloud cover and the resultant blocked sunlight have together brought back the chill. ``We are passing through the most pronounced phase of winter, which is likely to end by January 21. We don't expect the temperatures to drop further,'' Kalsi says. The weathermen however admit that tropical climatic predictions cannot be made for more than three days at a stretch.
