BOXING:
India has three other boxers in the fray with Jitender Kumar going into the ring tomorrow.

BADMINTON:
P. Gopichand will rely on his deceptive skills to match the power and speed of his Ukrainian rival V Druzchenkov in the men’s singles event. If the Indian crosses the first hurdle he would face world No. 2 Hendrawan of Indonesia whom he has never played.

SHOOTING:
With Anjali Vedpathak and Anwar Sultan out, the onus is on Abhinav Bindra. The 17-year-old has a sharp focus and carries a mature head. World took note of the Chandigarh lad when he equalled junior world record (596 of the 600) at the Munich World Cup in June. Bindra was awarded a returned qouta place in Air rifle event.

WEIGHTLIFTING:
Current Asian champion Sanamachu Chanu will carry India’s hopes for an individual Olympic medal when she fathoms her prowess at the women’s 53 kg weightlifting. Considered a medal prospect here, she became the first Indian individual sportsperson in recent times to be mentioned in this context by the `Sports illustrated’ on the eve of the Olympiad.

TABLE TENNIS:
Chetan Baboor and Poulami Ghatak retain a theoretical chance when a three-way tie in their respective groups is forced. Baboor next plays Peter Jackson of New Zealand in his last league match tomorrow while Ghatak takes on Anne Boileau of France.

EQUESTRIAN:
Rider Anees Imtiaz, who has been in Australia for some time now, will take part in all three equestrian events cross country, show jumping and dressage and will be astride his own horse.
