Congress MLA Jagat Singh has alleged that Finance Minister P Chidambaram was trying to frame him and his father K Natwar Singh. The former external affairs minister and his son are being investigated by the Pathak Commission in connection with the Iraq oil-for-food scam.

In an interview to CNN-IBN, Jagat said, ‘‘Yes, senior officials in the enforcement directorate have taken Chidambaram’s name and said they are under specific instructions from Chidambaram to find something on us, even if it is not Volcker-related.’’

Reacting to Jagat’s statement, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said disciplinary action ‘‘cannot be ruled out’’. ‘‘There is a lakshman rekha that cannot be crossed. The disciplinary committee of the party will take a view on this,’’ Singhvi said.

Asked whether he had specific evidence, Jagat said, ‘‘I am only saying what the ED officials told me. The ED comes under direct control of the Finance Ministry.’’
