The floods in Coochbehar district of West Bengal claimed two infants and affected a population of 70,000, as breaches occurred today in some embankments and spurs of rivers.
With at least 56.30 mm rainfall recorded in the district in the past 24 hours, the state government sounded a red alert with a warning of heavy rainfall till tomorrow. The swelling rivers have flooded 10 blocs, 241 villages, two municipal areas and 14 other wards pushing 2406 people to 113 rescue camps.
The two dead were a three-and-a-half-year old girl of and a month-old girl, the sources said.
