Five members of a family, hailing from Delhi, who came to the holy city of Haridwar on a holiday, have disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
48-year-old Rakesh Pahuja, a businessmen, along with his wife Bina (38), son Paras (16), daughter Preeti (13) and niece Priyanka (14) are missing since June 24, police said on Monday.
They had come to Haridwar in their own car on June 23 and stayed in a rest house. Late on June 24, they went for a joy ride but never returned, they said.
Next morning, Pahuja rang up Naresh Bhasin, father of Priyanka, in New Delhi from a PCO close to the rest house and told him that the family will return to Delhi on June 26.
But when they did not come back for another three days, a worried Bhasin rushed to Haridwar on Sunday and lodged a missing report with the police.
Five police teams have been sent to different locations in Haridwar to search for the missing family, Arvind Singh Rawat, a police officer investigating the case said.
Haridwar has gained the dubious distinction of missing persons getting lost forever with a top police official also becoming victim of these never-ending mysteries.
Dhoom Singh Tomar, Superintendent of Police (Haridwar) had disappeared in 2003 from the holy city but could not be traced till date.
