Five accused in Delhi blasts now in remand of crime branch

An Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) team took their custody at a metropolitan court in Delhi, where the local police produced them in the morning on the completion of their 12-day custody. The accused have been identified as Mohammed Saif, Zia-Ur-Rehman, Mohammed Shakeel, Shaquib Nisar and Zeeshan Ahmed.

Abhay Chudasma, Deputy Commissioner, DCB said, “They will be brought to Ahmedabad and produced before a local court soon.”

During their interrogation by the Delhi Police, the accused had reportedly confessed to having been involved in the Ahmedabad blasts also.

Following this, the Gujarat Police moved an application before the Delhi metropolitan court, seeking transit remand of the five. The DCB said their names surfaced during the interrogation of the 27 accused of the Ahmedabad blasts, who are currently in its custody.

While Saif was arrested immediately after the September 19 encounter at Jamia Nagar, Zeeshan was arrested later that day from the Jhandewalan area in central Delhi where he had gone to give an interview to a private TV channel. A day later, Mohammed Shakeel, Zia-Ur-Rehman and Saquib Nissar were arrested from south Delhi.

All five have been booked under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Explosive Substances Act and the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act.
