BERLIN, DECEMBER 16: Former world champion Bobby Fischer of the United States has been elected Chess Player of the Century by a vote in the internationally reknowned magazine Chess.Sixty-four experts from 20 different countries took part in the vote. The results were announced yesterday.Finishing behind the 56-year-old Fischer, who stepped down as world champion in 1975, were current world champion Garry Kasparov of Russia and German Emanuel Lasker, whose 27-year reign as champion (1894-1921) is a record.
