MUMBAI, September 2: A fire broke out in the Jaipur Express bound for Jaipur from Mumbai, halting its progress at Borivli. The fire broke out in the goods wagon, situated just ahead of the guards’ cabin of the train at around 8 pm, immediately after the train left Borivli station.

Railway police claimed no one was injured in the incident. The compartment was later detached from the train, which was detained at the station. Three fire engines and two tankers fought the blaze for over an hour before the fire was extinguished at 9.20 pm.

The incident had an immediate effect on the suburban services, with trains on the fast track being diverted from platform number four, where the Jaipur Express stood, to the slow platforms two and three. Local commuters at the station had to bear the intense heat as fire destroyed the wagon. Goods worth lakhs of rupees are believed to have been destroyed in the fire.
