His last film, Naseem, examined events leading up to the Babri Masjid’s demolition through conflicts within a Muslim family. This time, noted filmmaker Saeed Mirza is all set to take on yet another topical theme —militancy in J-K and its impact on the common man.
Set against a backdrop of the security forces, the film will highlight tensions brewing between a CRPF camp and a Kashmiri family living in an adjoining area. While analysing the conflict, the film also proposes to study the unstated yet tenuous understanding between the parties.
The director will travel to Kashmir next month for groundwork before beginning work on the film. Shooting is scheduled to start in December and the cast will include Surekha Sikri, Vijay Nair and Rampal Yadav among others.
‘‘I have the funds but not the script. This has happened for the first time in my life. The film is being financed by the NFDC,’’ the recently bereaved Mirza, (brother Aziz’s wife Nirmala passed away last week), said.
Mirza is known for slice-of-real-life movies such as Saleem Langde Pe Mat Ro, Mohan Joshi Haazir Ho and Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai, and path-breaking TV serials such as Nukkad and Circus. In all, he has exemplified the hopes, desires and disappointments of the common man.
His latest film will be no different. ‘‘If we don’t feel for the ordinary man, others will take advantage of his situation,’’ he says.
