The faculty council of Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, which vociferously protested government order of fee-reduction, on Wednesday filed a writ petition before the High Court challenging the legality of March 26 board meeting of the Institute.

The council also decided to charge fee at old rates from students. However, in case the Supreme Court, where the matter was now sub-judice, ordered fee reduction, then the excess money would be refunded to students at SBI interest rates.

Meanwhile, IIM, Indore, has said that its Board of Governors has yet not taken any decision to charge full fee from the current batch of students and keep Rs 30,000 with the Institute’s account and the remaining in a non-lien account to be adjusted subject to the Supreme Court’s decision.

‘‘We clarify that no such decision has yet been taken by the board in this matter,’’ Institute director S.P. Parashar said.
