Two days before the counting of votes in Bihar, Union Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav has for the first time hinted at the possibility of taking the support of the Congress, Left parties and Independents.
He said that the RJD would get between 100 and 110 seats and form the government in the state with ease. (In Bihar’s 243-member house, he needs to get at least 122 to form a government.) However, he claimed there was no dearth of support for the RJD and if the situation so demanded ‘‘there are Left parties, Congress and other allies. Besides, there are Independents.’’
He accused the Congress and a section of the media of launching a ‘‘Laloo Hatao’’ campaign in the polls, and said elections in the state were ‘‘free for all’’ with the RJD as target. After being away for a month, Yadav today returned to his role as Railway Minister and posed for photographers with a copy of the railway budget.
The minister got irritated when asked about the PMO’s alleged involvement in drafting the budget and his minimal involvement. ‘‘Everywhere, confusion is being created. He (Prime Minister) hasn’t talked to me,’’ he said. He said Railway Board members had been shuttling down to Patna to consult him on the budget.
