PATIALA, MARCH 4: The Food Corporation of India FCI employees today organised a dharna in front of the district manager8217;s office here, on a call by the All India Food Corporation of India Employees Union, against the callous attitude of the management regarding their demands.

Union vice-president S. P. Sood said that the indifferent attitude of the management had forced them to resort to agitation and warned that if their demands were not met, the agitation would be further intensified.

Sood said that as per this programme, the union would organise a dharna in front of the regional office on March 9, a nationwide protest rally at the Parliament House on March 12 and if the management continued to disregard their demands, the union would begin a nationwide strike from March 26.

The union8217;s north zone additional general secretary Sita Singh criticised the management for ordering illegal recoveries and penalties from the employees and appealed to it to mend its ways.

State president Barjinder Singh said that mismanagement and delayed decisions had cost the corporation a loss of crores of rupees.

The employees demands include implementation of wage revision, time-bound promotion policy, appointments on compassionate grounds, improvement in field operations and filling up of vacant posts.

PUTA members observe fast
PUTA members, led by secretary N. S. Atri, observed a 12-hour fast here today, following AIFUTA8217;s plea to the Punjab government to order immediate release of undiluted notification for teachers engaged in higher education.Atri stressed that it was contrary to the Central government notification and UGC guidelines regarding the payment of arrears in one instalment and enhancing the age of retirement from 60 to 62 years, the career advancement scheme, benefit of PHD degree etc.

He added that PUTA would fight till their demands were met.
