FBI officials are helping Pakistani intelligence agencies track down Amjad Farooqi, believed to be the mastermind behind the assassination attempts on President Pervez Musharraf, local daily Dawn reported. Acting on a tip off, a joint team of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the Special Services Group (SSG) and the FBI left for Bannu, bordering Afghanistan, on Sunday.

Meanwhile, thousands of troops were deployed at Shi’ite mosques on Monday to prevent revenge attacks after the killing of a senior pro-Taliban Sunni cleric.
