MUMBAI, June 14: Bhoiwada police have arrested the frustrated father who killed his two-year-old polio-ridden son by throwing him from the 12th floor of KEM Hospital on Saturday morning.

According to sub-inspector Ramesh Sawant, Rajesh Chaudhari took his son Kumar Vishal to the 12th floor of KEM Hospital at around 10.30 am on Saturday and threw him on the road. The infant died on the spot, Sawant said.

Chaudhari (36) told the police he was frustrated because all efforts to get his son treated during the last two years had proved futile. The doctor had informed him his son would have to be treated for one more year, and he couldn’t bear to see him struggle.

Vishal had been brought to KEM hospital from Akola for treatment.Chaudhari allegedly told his wife earlier that if treatment at KEM didn’t help his son, he would kill him. On June 12, doctors attending to Vishal told his parents he should be treated at another hospital at Haji Ali, which apparently put Rajesh off.

On Saturday morning, when Vishalasked for tea, his father was annoyed and threw him down. Chaudhari has been remanded to police custody till June 20, police said.
