FEROZEPUR, DECEMBER 13: Punjab police on Monday arrested a quack and his daughter for supplying spurious liqour which allegedly caused the death of 11 people here on Saturday.

Mehtab Singh and his daughter were arrested for allegedly supplying spirit to the victims – all beggars and ragpickers – who had become habituated to the cheap substitute for liquor, the police said.

Sadar police SHO Baldev Singh said Singh’s daughter worked as a courier between him and prospective customers.

Deputy Inspector General, Ferozepur police range, H S Dhillon said more arrests were expected in the case.

Meanwhile, District Magistrate Kulbir Singh Sidhu has ordered an inquiry into the case.
