PATIALA, Oct 29: On the call of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta), Punjab, the district farmers organised a traffic jam at Patiala-Rajpura bypass today to protest against the hike in the price of diesel ordered by the Union government.

The agitating farmers later lifted the traffic jam and proceeded in a protest march and organised a rally in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner on the Mall Road.

While addressing the rally, Peshora Singh Sidhupur, state president of the union, strongly condemned the decision of the Union government in hiking the prices of diesel by 40 per cent and the increasing of sales tax by 8 per cent by the state government. He said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal claimed himself to be pro-farmer, bit his actions had proved otherwise.
