Fall in tourist visits to Mamallapuram

KANCHEEPURAM, June 14: The unusually hot summer this year, coupled with the rival attraction of the World Cup Football in France has resulted ain the tourist flow to the tourist centre of Mamallapuram near here registering an all-time low. The occupancy by foreign tourists of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Devleopment Corporation’s camping site at the tourist spot dropped from 75%-80% to just 30%. Hoteliers and tour promoters feel the Tourism Department will have to introduce new attractions like boating and water sport if the tourist site is to retain its popularity.
