An accused in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, Deputy Superintendent of police N K Amin, has filed an affidavit in a local court in Ahmedabad saying he apprehends that Sabarmati jail authorities will kill him.

Amin, lodged in the Sabarmati jail, is accused of helping DIG D G Vanzara in disposing the body of Kausar Bi, wife of Sheikh who was killed in a fake encounter on the outskirts of the city in November 2005.

He filed the affidavit in the court of Additional Sessions Judge P B Desai yesterday, who has kept it for hearing on Friday.

Amin has claimed in the affidavit that authorities including Jail Inspector Generals (IGs) were hatching a conspiracy to kill him in an encounter as he had “clinching evidence” to prove his innocence. “They want to silence my voice,” he further said in the affidavit.

Amin has said in the affidavit that he has been physically assaulted in the jail and that he had fractured his finger.

Sheikh’s encounter was carried out by state Anti-Terrorist Squad along with the Rajasthan police. Though Amin was with the city crime branch, his proximity with suspended DIG Vanzara brought him under suspicion and he was accused of helping in disposing Kausar Bi’s body.

Fourteen policemen are behind bars in the fake encounter case, which includes three IPS officers – D G Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandian and Dinesh M N. The Supreme Court, in a recent order, has stayed the trial of the fake encounter case.
