A 21-year-old man, Vijaysingh Thakur, from Harduwa village in MP was set on fire by four extortionists at Igatpuri railway station on Monday, hours after he arrived to take up his railway contractors job.

‘‘I, along with four other boys from our village reached Igatpuri, where five youths from our village are employed with a railway contractor,’’ said Vijaysingh. He is now in the Nashik Civil Hospital with 72 per cent burn injuries.

‘‘We went to the shed where they (the four other local boys) were staying. Then four local goons came, armed with iron rods, and demanded that each one of us should pay them hafta of Rs 100 every fortnight.’’
