Vinita Deshmukh, senior editor with The Indian Express, Pune, has won the first prize in The Statesman Award for Rural Reporting, 2004.

The award was presented to her at a function in Kolkata this evening.

Vinita Deshmukh won the award—constituted in 1979—for her article, ‘‘The Village Roadshow’’, about the reverse migration into Maharashtra villages, analysing the factors contributing to it.

There were over 100 entries from eight languages for the award this year.
