In a joint operation on Wednesday, Jharkhand police and a local CRPF platoon recovered some highly-explosive material from a resident of Basti, near Bundu Police station, following a tip-off.

This included seven containers of Dalda carrying explosives — 222 pieces gelatin, 172 pieces of detonators and two sacks full of fuse wire and an Exide battery.

‘‘The explosives are sufficient to blow off a township,’’ claimed an IPS officer later on the condition of anonymity. ‘‘The land mines used by ultras can be manufactured out of these explosives,’’ Ranchi SSP M.V. Rao said.

Although the key accused, who is the owner of an automobile parts’ shop, escaped, interrogation of family members revealed details about the clandestine trade of explosives, leading to police raids in two other places — Basti and Rahe, a km from Bundu.

Bundu — an upcoming trade centre of Biddi patta in Ranchi district — has been infested by MCC extremists and had witnessed several

incidents of dacoity, murder and robberies in the recent past.

Some incriminating material, including leaflets of the CPI(ML) from his house last night. An enquiry is on into the seizure.
