Three World Heritage Sites, 100-odd national monuments and the reservoirs of traditional industrial skills, should be enough to sell Agra as an international city — so believe the experts at the Agra Conclave that started today.
The conclave, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government and US Agency for International Development (USAID), is looking at formulating an agenda for the growth and renewal of Agra.
Deepak Mallik, Chairman, CII Western UP Zonal Council, said, ‘‘Agra has everything going for it. It has the Taj Mahal, which serves as a gateway to India for both international tourists and investors. This year, the UP government is celeberating 350 years of the Taj, which makes it the right time to launch such an initiative.’’
A study initiated by CII last year revealed that the city needed to upgrade its infrastructure and market its traditional industries and tourists sites better to be able to get on the global map, said Mallik
As a result, CII decided to bring stakeholders together to discuss what needs to be done to ensure Agra’s status as an international city.
