Two days after his expulsion, Indian Charge d’ Affaires in Pakistan Sudhir Vyas crossed over to India through Wagah border on Monday, saying the responsibility of security of Indian High Commission officials there lay on Islamabad.
Four other expelled Indian high Commission staffers, including a diplomat, Rahul Rasgotra, and a servant also crossed over to the Indian side this afternoon.
Vyas said: ‘‘Indian High Commission employees are not living in any serious danger but we have to be vigilant and responsibility for this lies with Pakistan.’’ Besides Vyas and Rasgotra, others who arrived here were M.R. Balu, Ranbir Singh and S.R. Anand.
Expelled Pakistani Charge D’ Affaires Jaleel Abbas Jilani too crossed over to his country at the joint check post at the international border tonight, terming India’s action against him as ‘‘hasty’’ and suggesting the two countries restore their diplomatic ties to the 1998-99 level.
Jilani, who was expected to cross the JCP in the evening, arrived here at around 9.30 pm, along with his driver and another person. His family will return to Pakistan later as they have a week’s time to do so, as against the 48 hours given to the diplomat to leave India.
Security agencies in various districts along the GT Road on which Jilani was to travel to JCP claimed to have no knolwedge of his movement.
Earlier three other expelled staffers of Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi — Abdul Razak, Aftab Ahmed and Mod Nazir — crossed the border with their spouses and children.
‘‘I still love India and I would like to come back,’’ Jilani said.
