AGRA, SEPT 24: In a bizarre incident, the brother of a former Congress MLA was killed at the Bah Campus police station when the gun of a constable went off accidentally, eye-witnesses say.

Rajendra Sharma, brother of former Congress MLA Amar Chand Sharma, and his friend Bhikam Singh had gone to the police station for renewal of Sharma’s gun licence. According to eye-witnesses, constable Rakesh Yadav was standing closeby, cleaning his duty rifle for a search mission. The rifle bolt is reported to have slipped and the cartridge got fired. The bullet, fired from a very close range, hit Sharma in the brain, resulting in instant death. Yadav has been arrested and charged with un-intentional murder.

A senior police officer told The Indian Express that the constable did not intend to fire at Sharma, and it was an accident.

The incident caused uproar among the public which burnt vehicles and pelted stones at the police. The latter resorted to lathi-charge and arrested 12 people. Sharma’s body has been sent for post mortem.
