Lonkar’s friend Vidyasagar Kanetkar rushed the injured history-sheeter to Sassoon Hospital where he died in the afternoon, they added.

The assailants were arrested after Kanetkar lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Yerawada police station on Monday afternoon.

The FIR alleged that they had killed Lonkar over previous rivalry. Lonkar, whose involvement was suspected in some assault cases and an attempted murder, was working under a vegetable vendor for the last few days, the police said.
