Former Mumbai police commissioner M.N. Singh today told a special court here that he was in London at the time when the decision to invoke POTA against suspected terrorist Mohammad Afroze was taken by the authorities.Singh was deposing before designated judge a P. Bhangale, who is hearing a case filed by the Mumbai police alleging terrorist links of Mohammad Afroze. Singh told the court that when he returned from London, he was informed that pota had already been invoked against Afroze.Singh’s statement contradicted what the other officers had told the court on invoking pota against Afroze. Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Pradeep Sawant and former Joint Commissioner Bhujangrao Mohite had told the court during their deposition that Singh had taken the decision to invoke pota against Afroze.During examination, Singh said that he recollected Afroze having confessed that he had known one Mohammad, who was involved in conspiracy to attack the House of Commons.
