In a major haul, Ganja worth Rs 4.6 crore, besides two AK-47 assault rifles and six duplicate ones, were seized from 12 people posing as security personnel in central Assam last night. The 12, including a former BSF personnel, have been arrested.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and the Assam police, in a joint operation, seized the narcotics and arms from three trucks heading for a Bihar town from Dimapur in Nagaland. The arrested persons were in olive green dresses similar to military uniform. The trucks were stopped near the Kaliabhomora bridge on the Brahmaputra linking Kaliabor and Tezpur in central Assam. All three trucks bore New Delhi registration numbers.
Tezpur police said the arrested included six Manipuris, four Biharis and a Jharkhandi. The arrested have been booked under the NDPS Act.
