Essar Telecom, one of India’s largest cellular providers, of the over Rs 17,000 crore Essar Group, is at an advanced stage of merging all its telecom ventures into one unit.

“We are working on nitty gritties and hope to finalisethe proposal within next one and a half months or latest within next two months,” Essar Group officials today said.

“Post merger, we will have significant position in the country’s cellular market and Essar’s share then was likely to be between 30 and 40 per cent,” Essar group director Anshuman Ruia said.

Ruia had earlier hinted that they might go for initial public offering once the merger was completed.

Presently, Essar operates through its fully owned company Aircel Digilink India Limited in Haryana, East UP and Rajasthan under the “Essar Cellphone” brand name and through Evergrowth Telecom Limited in Punjab.

It was partnering the Hutchison group in Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat and Kolkata.
