CHANDIGARH, Dec 2: Escorts Ltd plans to focus on the export market in a big way and has set an export target of about 15,000 targets to Europe and the US in the next two years.

Disclosing this here today, Rajan Nanda, chairman of the Escorts Ltd said the the company had acquired 49 per cent equity in Long Manufacturing Company of USA to enhance its presence in the export market. The joint venture company would sell around 2,000 tractors to the United States in this fiscal year, he said.

Unveiling the country’s first paddy transplanter, Escorts-Yanmar, and its all new "Powertrac series of tractors", Nanda said the paddy transplanter will mechanise the entire process of farming, right form tilling the land to planting the seeds. Nanda said the newly-launched powertrac series of tractors would capture around 22 per cent of domestic market by 2000. The Powertrac series required low maintenance and offered longer engine life, he said and added that the tractor industry in the country will not witness any growth this fiscal year.
