An entrepreneurship development programme was conducted in Government College for Girls, Sector 11, on Thursday. The programme was organised by the college in association with Director of Industries (UT Administration) and ABZA consultants as part of the commemoration of the Global Enterprise Week. UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas was the chief guest on the occasion.
In her welcome address, Promila Kaushal, principal of the college said that entrepreneurs are a vital resource in a growing economy like India. “The basic aim of the programme was to stress the need of training for entrepreneurship in the face of emerging globalisation and growing competition,” she added.
Speaking on the occasion, Ram Niwas drew attention towards the prevailing economic crisis and liquidity crunch throughout the world. He highlighted upon the efforts being made by G20 in order to tide over the present crisis. Defining entrepreneurship, he said it is ‘making the best out of the worst, thinking ahead of time and planning differently.’ He substantiated his discourse by giving example of countries like Netherlands, Australia, Israel, Japan, South Korea and China.
Niwas also motivated the youth, especially young women entrepreneurs by citing the example of Indira Nooyi, CEO, Pepsico, to come forward and set up their own ventures.
A panel discussion was also held which consisted of the Director of Industry,
UT Chandigarh, entrepreneurs, professionals and researchers.
