Port of Spain, Feb 16: Mike Atherton's England edged themselves into a possible winning position in the third Test against the West Indies at the Queen's Park Oval here yesterday - dismissing the home side for 210 and leaving themselves a victory target of 225.And by close of play the tourists had reached 52 for no wicket with Atherton (30) and Alec Stewart (14) still at the crease having survived 24 overs.Atherton, who had to be persuaded to stay on as captain for this tour, knows that another defeat here might be the beginning of the end of his record-breaking leadership reign. As the West Indies batted through their second innings Angus Fraser again proved to be the danger man. He took four for 40 while Dean Headley also came good with four for 77.Fraser, however, also took the all-important wicket of Brian Lara (47) - the fourth time he has removed Lara in four innings. But England's failure to finish off the West Indies second innings after Headley's late afternoon burst of three wicketsfor one run in seven balls could yet prove decisive.Adams (53) completed the first half-century of the match adding 51 priceless runs for the last two wickets.Nixon McLean (2) and Courtney Walsh (1 n.o.) contributed just three singles between them, but their role in frustrating England's tiring attack was precious.Lara's early exit to Fraser gave England the fillip they needed after yesterday's poor batting display.Fraser eventually added the final wicket, of Adams, to his initial morning spell of 8-4-8-2. So far, in one of the greatest of all Test comebacks, 32-year-old Fraser has taken 20 wickets in four innings at a cost of only 190 runs.At 159 for eight the Windies led by only 173 but Headley strained in vain for the kill - Adams pulling a short one for four and then extra cover driving for another four.SCOREBOARDWEST INDIES (1st Innings): 159ENGLAND (1st Innings): 145WEST INDIES (2nd Innings): S Campbell lbw b Fraser 13, S Williams c Atherton bCaddick 23, B Lara lbw b Fraser 47, K Benjamin c Russell b Fraser 1, C Hooper lbw b Headley 5, S Chanderpaul c Russell b Headley 39, J Adams c Atherton b Fraser 53, D Williams lbw b Headley 0, C Ambrose b Headley 0, N McLean c Stewart b Caddick 2, C Walsh n.o.1.
