In a macabre incident, a chief track engineer with the South Central Railway (SCR), his wife and two children were murdered at their residence and later their bodies set ablaze in their car in wee hours of this morning, police said. The cause behind the murder has not yet been established.
Around 6.30 am a passerby, M.G.K. Pasha, who was on his way to a mosque saw smoke emanating from a car on the Upperguda Road and informed the matter to the police.
The police rushed to the scene only to find the skeletal remains of the engineer and his family members and the Maruti Alto car (AP 10 R 3078) reduced to ashes. The victims were identified as Baldev Raj Seth (50), his wife, Prabha Seth, (44) and their children Kannika Seth (13) and Rishabh Seth (7).
According to a senior police official, blood stains were found in the house which the culprits had tried to clean with water. Police suspect their servant, Chandrabhushan Upadhyaya, who had been working for them since 1996. Upadhyaya told the police that Seth and other family members left home around 8 pm yesterday to have dinner outside. Thereafter they went missing, he added.
Seth was a native of New Delhi. Though the motive is yet to be ascertained, sources hinted at enmity related to some railway contracts.
