Engg. kickbacks case: Judicial remand for two

CHANDIGARH, June 15: Superintending engineer Jagdish Mitter and Executive engineer Naresh Kumar Gupta were further remanded to judicial custody till June 29 by Additional District and Sessions Judge G. S. Sandhu in the engineering

department kickback case, here today. The duo were arrested by UT Vigilance Department under the Prevention of Corruption Act on the basis of diaries reportedly recovered during raids by the Income Tax authorities at the residences of the alleged middlemen in November last year.

According to the prosecution, approximately Rs 1,75,000 were entered against Mitter’s name in alleged middleman Sunil Kalia’s diary, while about Rs 85,800 were scrawled against his name in the diaries allegedly belonging to the other "middlemen", the Sharma brothers.

Meanwhile, approximately Rs 57,550 were found entered against Gupta’s name in the diaries.
