The Mumbai Police have dismissed senior police inspector Aslam Momin for his alleged links with Dawood Ibrahim. Momin was one of the high-profile officers in the force who are known as "encounter specialists’’.Mumbai Police Commissioner A.N. Roy, who issue Momin’s sack order yesterday, said the Legal Department was studying the case papers to find what further action could be taken against him.Roy said, "We found Momin had links with Dawood Ibrahim and his brothers — Noora and Iqbal.’’ Iqbal Kaskar was deported from Dubai to India in February 2003 along with an alleged drug trafficker, Ejaz Pathan, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.According to senior police officials, Momin’s conversation with Iqbal Kaskar was taped when he started flaunting his "moles in the syndicates’’, whom he had nurtured when he was posted at the N M Joshi Marg police station and at the Crime Branch units 7 and 8. We found Momin had links with Dawood Ibrahim and his brothers — Noora and Iqbal. Iqbal was deported from Dubai to India in Feb 2003 along with Ejaz Pathan, an accused in the Mumbai blasts case — Mumbai Police Commissioner AN Roy Asked if the Intelligence Bureau (IB) played a role in gathering evidence against Momin or others, Roy said, "There’s no such information or any so-called list from the IB or the Cabinet Secretariat’s Special Bureau. We took action on the basis of our surveillance.’’ He added the dismissal does not have anything to do with the Shobhan Mehta case. "It was neither Mehta’s confessional statement or for that matter his ties with the officer. The surveillance had been going on for quite some time after we came to know about his contacts with the underworld, especially with Iqbal Kaskar,’’ Roy said.Meanwhile, the dismissal has led to a buzz in the force that more might follow. The questioning of Dawood’s uncle added to this."There is no such move,’’ said Mumbai Police Commissioner A N Roy.
