You may be wearing the most expensive dress or suit, one that makes you feel like a million dollars, but wearing the wrong pair of shoes can ruin the whole effect.

Many people do not believe in spending on shoes, since they think footwear cannot be seen, but the right accessories can actually make all the difference. Some of the worst victims of wearing bad shoes are our models who will be dressed up in some wonderful designer creation on the ramp, but team it up with see-through plastic shoes, since they think these shoes match every outfit. They don’t realise that these out-of-date and ugly shoes just draw the attention away from the stunning outfits they are wearing. As Rina Shah of Rinaldi Shoes puts it: "The right accessories will give any oufit that finishing touch it needs." So before you step out, think about how you dress up your feet.

This season, women have a lot of styles to choose from, beginning from sandals, going up to thigh-high boots. A new heel that has become quite fashionable is thestilleto wedge, which gives the effect of stilleto, but has a wedge base, making it kind on your back. Remember, thicker and clumpy shoes look best with trousers. For evening dresses, stick to mules, sandals or just a plain pumps. And if you have pretty feet then shoe them off, in a pair of peep toes. Go for square heels as they are better than pointed heels, which are bad for your posture. As far as colour goes, women still tend to stick to black, white, and tan. But sometimes it can look quite funky to wear pastel shoes, especially if you have a matching handbag. And men have just as much choice as women. For a suit, nothing will look better than a good lace-up, or a square-toed slip-ons. But if you are wearing jeans, why not try a snappy flip-flop? Both Reebok and Nike are making some very trendy flip-flops with velcro fasteners. They give a very sporty look and are as comfortable as wearing sneakers. With Indian clothes, nothing looks better than sandals or traditional mojris. Men’s shoes too, aregetting more colourful with navy blue, tan and grey becoming quite popular.

And remember, shoes must always be tried on before they’re bought. Every shoe style will fit you differently. After trying them on, walk around the showroom for a while and check that the shoe doesn’t hurt or pinch you. And don’t worry if one foot is slightly larger than the other that’s quite normal. You can always add an insole to one shoe to adjust the size for your smaller foot. And at all times, remember your feet need to be treated well.

There is no point wearing uncomfortable shoes just for the sake of looking fashionable. As you will only end up with ugly feet, full of corns and blisters.
