Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh today said the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme will be launched in the last week of January or the first week of February.

Singh had earlier written to the PM that the ministry was ready for the launch in 150 districts. The PM had acknowledged the receipt of the letter and would now decide the date and place for the launch.

The ministry has also finalised guidelines for the implementation of the programme after consultation with states and experts. The scheme seeks to provide 100 days of employment to every rural household.

The money for the scheme will come from the existing schemes. For the three months of this financial year, Rs 5,500 crore has been taken from Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojna and Rs 4,500 crore from the food-for-work scheme.
