Heads are rolling in wake of the massive saffron poll debacle. While senior Sena leader Narayan Rane has already told mentor Bal Thackeray that he is not keen to continue as Leader of Opposition, pressure is building on state BJP president Gopinath Munde to quit. However, Munde has refused to quit. A senior BJP leader said since the elections were fought under his leadership, Munde should resign in the larger interest of the party. ‘‘If Venkaiah can resign on his own, it will be most appropriate for Munde to follow suit,’’ the senior BJP leader said.Meanwhile, there’s rumbling within the saffron combine. Ever since the declaration of results, a debate is on over the poor performance of the Sena-BJP combine. The Sena has already declared that there is no proposal to replace party executive president Uddhav Thackeray, despite the fact that the entire Assembly election was monitored by him.Bal Thackeray has already said that both Uddhav and Raj worked overtime during the elections, but owing to the pro-minority policy of the Congress and NCP, the saffron combine had to suffer the defeat. As Bal Thackeray’s word is final in the Shiv Sena, the debate has stopped, but that is not the case with the BJP.Anti-Pramod Mahajan and Munde leaders within the BJP feel that in view of the dismal performance of the party, it was high time for the party leadership to revamp the organisation. ‘‘It’s time for self-introspection for all of us,’’ a former BJP minister said.
